The introduction of Variation 6 of the Waikato Regional Plan will see significant changes for dairy farmers relying on surface or ground water for dairy shed wash down and cooling water. It is vital that dairy farmers are proactive in applying for consents under Variation 6. Although the deadline for applications is some time away (1 January 2015), the first in first served basis of water allocation under Variation 6 will reward those farmers who make an early consent application. As with any statutory framework, there are nuances and exceptions to the rules. Farmers wishing to discuss how Variation 6 may impact on them should seek early and accurate advice. We have recently been working with the Regional Council, Dairy NZ and Opus International Consultants Ltd to ensure our cluients benefit from accurate and up-to-date advice.
