- Have a business plan – it doesn’t have to be a novel, ours is just 1 page.
- Your business plan should set your goals for your business - where do you want to be in 1 year, 3 years, 5 years?
- Break your goals down – what are your key actions in the next 90 days towards achieving your goals?
- Accountability – have someone in or out of your business that will make sure you implement your actions.
- Don’t be an island – tap into the resources around you. Join your local Chamber of Commerce, attend free seminars, join online groups such as Linked In.
- Work on your business – set time aside to implement your business plan. Make this time sacrosanct.
- Network, network, network – every person you meet who knows what you do could lead you to your next customer.
- Don’t let a “No” put you off – persistence pays off.
- Love your lawyer and your accountant – make sure you have great advisors on your team.
- Surround yourself with A Players – if you have a team member who is not a good fit, don’t bury your head in the sand. Work out what needs to change and get advice on your options to address non-performers.
