The kindest and most practical thing you can do for your family

No one enjoys talking about Wills, but having one in place is one of the kindest and most practical things you can do for your family.

A Will sets out clearly who receives your home, your savings, personal belongings, and any investments (including your KiwiSaver). It allows you to appoint someone you trust to carry out your wishes and, if needed, to provide for grandchildren, charities, or specific gifts that matter to you. Most importantly, it removes uncertainty at a time when your loved ones will already be grieving.

If you die without a Will in New Zealand, you are said to die “intestate”. That means the law decides who receives your estate. Your spouse or partner may have to share your assets with your children, including the family home.  If there is no partner, assets are divided between children or passed to other relatives according to a fixed legal formula.

Without a Will, the process of administering your estate is often slower, more stressful, and more expensive. Having a Will in place means you stay in control of your decisions, rather than leaving them for others, or the law, to make.

We are happy to discuss your Will with you. Feel free to get in touch with us at Gallie Miles.
