Wanting to move out of town and embrace the country lifestyle, Te Awamutu couple Chris and Jaime Boulton enlisted the help of Gallie Miles’ Kathryn Horton to help them with their property sale and purchase.
Parents to three teenaged children, Jaime and Chris Boulton dreamed of buying a property with some land.
“We had been looking for a house with a bit of land for some time, but many were way out of our price range,” says Jaime, who works as a teacher at a local country school.
“We really sat on this (new) house for a long time as it didn't quite have what we were after with no shed, but could see the potential, for the right price.”
First, they had to sell their existing property, which they put up for auction.
“We had a lot of ups and downs with putting our house up for sale. We weren’t really keen on auction, but because we had put an offer in on the new place, we knew we had to give it a go,” says Jaime.
“Kathryn was amazing at communicating with us. There was a huge list of covenants on the property, and we hadn’t quite seen a list so long and complex before.”
“The bank was very slow sending the loan documents through and they didn’t come in until the day before settlement. Kathryn was amazing in the week leading up to it and even made a house call to get us to sign them in time.”
“The house was left really dirty when we got into it and Kathryn advised us to get cleaning costs reimbursed by the previous owners. The bank also took out too much money on the mortgage breaking fees which they assured us they wouldn't do, so that was another muck up on settlement day that Kathryn and our broker had to sort out.”
“Her attention to detail is 100% and she worked so hard with getting us across the line. She always kept calm and worked through it easily.”
Now that they’re in the new home, Jaime and Chris say they’re not looking back.
“It took a few weeks to get used to the lifestyle change, being so far out of town etc, and getting the place clean,” says Jaime.
“We still have a lot of work to do but can easily just do it in our own time. We love it and we wouldn’t want to go back.”
